PageTimer is a Chrome extension that tracks how much active foreground time you spend on each website. This policy explains exactly what data is collected, what is not, and how any collected data is used.
All browsing data (the list of websites you visit and the time you spend on them)
is stored exclusively in chrome.storage.local on your own device.
This data is never transmitted anywhere. It is retained for up to
35 days and then automatically deleted.
The following is stored locally and never leaves your device:
example.com)PageTimer collects a small number of anonymous, non-personal events to understand how the extension is used and to guide improvements. These events are sent to PostHog, a third-party analytics platform.
| Event | Properties |
|---|---|
extension_installed | none |
popup_session | duration_seconds: how long the popup was open |
period_changed | days: which tab (1 / 7 / 30) was selected |
limit_saved | action: notify or block |
limit_removed | none |
limit_triggered | action: notify or block |
site_unblocked | none |
feedback_submitted | category and message: only the text you choose to type and send via the feedback form |
Each event is associated with a device ID: a randomly generated UUID created when the extension is first installed. It has no connection to your Google account, identity, or any personal information. It is used solely to count unique installs versus total events.
$geoip_disable: true is always sent)
Analytics events are sent to PostHog (US region, us.i.posthog.com).
PostHog's own privacy policy is available at
posthog.com/privacy.
No other third-party services receive any data.
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
tabs |
To detect which tab is active and read its URL so time can be attributed to the correct hostname. URLs are never stored or transmitted. |
storage |
To persist time-tracking data, time limits, and the device ID locally on your device. |
alarms |
To flush in-progress session data to storage every 30 seconds and check time limits, even if the service worker restarts. |
notifications |
To display a desktop notification when a time limit you configured is reached (only when you choose the "notify" limit type). |
Local time-tracking data is automatically pruned to the last 35 days.
You can remove all data at any time by uninstalling the extension, which clears
chrome.storage.local for this extension.
Anonymous analytics events stored by PostHog are retained according to PostHog's standard data retention policy.
PageTimer does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The extension collects only anonymous, non-personal usage events and no information that could identify any individual.
If the data practices described here change materially, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date will reflect the revision.
Questions about this policy can be directed to the extension's support page on the Chrome Web Store.
